The 55.83 square mile college city of Fort Collins, home to more than 156,000 residents, is the fourth most populous city in the entire state of Colorado. The area was originally a military outpost for the United States Army back in 1864 and settlers immediately came and settled in the surrounding area. The establishment of an agricultural colony in 1872 helped the city’s population grow even more. As home to a college-age majority because of the presence of the Colorado State University, Fort Collins is surrounded by a number of microbreweries. Among the most famous ones include the New Belgium Brewing Company, the Fort Collins Brewery and the Odell Brewing Company. The annual Colorado Brewer’s Festival held in late June also draws in up to 45 brewers all throughout the state and around 30,000 attendees. Other great places to see in the city are the Fort Collins Museum, Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, Cache La Poudre River, Spring Canyon Community Park and many more.
