Fort Lauderdale is one of the series of forts built in the country during the Second Seminole War. This particular one in Florida was named after Major William Lauderdale, the commander of the soldiers who built the first “Fort Lauderdale”. Much has changed in the area since then and, at present, has become one of the most popular spring break destinations among college students because of its ideal climate. The city is mostly being frequented by college students and other vacationers for its beaches and nightlife. Fort Lauderdale yacht manufacturing and maintenance industry is also pretty strong making it a major yachting center. Other sites of interest in the area include the historic Bonnet House, Henry E. Kinney tunnel, Florida Everglades, Las Olas Boulevard and the 180-acre Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. The Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District is also home to several arts and culture attractions, parks, shops and restaurants.
