The Lyman House Memorial Museum, founded in 1931 and originally built in 1838, is not only a natural history museum but is also the island’s oldest surviving wood-framed building. The museum has displays on Hawaiian culture as well as a collection of shells and minerals.

The Mokupapapa Discovery Center in the S. Hata Building, meanwhile, has interactive exhibits and displays on the Leeward Islands. It also has a large mural showing the coral reef ecosystems on the island, life-sized models of sharks, fish and manta ray and even a recording of the creation chant of the Kumulipo, a Hawaiian mythology.
