The 19.3 square mile city of Richmond was named after Richmond, Virginia and is home to the Eastern Kentucky University. It is the seventh largest city in the state and is currently the center for work and shopping in the southern Kentucky area. The city was founded by Colonel John Miller in 1798 and was said to be attracted by the spring water and the Native Americans who settled in the area. The city of Richmond is surrounded by several parks including the Lake Reba Recreational Complex. The area is also where Paradise Cove and Adventure Falls Miniature Golf and Batting Cages are located. Other places of interest in the city are Fort Boonesborough State Park, White Hall State Historic Site, Battle of Richmond Visitors Center, Baldwin Farms and Battlefield Park. Several high rises in the city are found in the Eastern Kentucky University campus and includes the Commonwealth Hall, Keene Hall and Telford Hall.
