Cedar Point is located in Ohio on the Lake Erie Peninsula and is a 365-acre amusement park that was first opened in 1870 by Louis Zistel. He was the German immigrant who first opened a beer garden, dance floor, children’s playground, and bathhouse that was accessible to his clients by the use of his steamboat, Young Reindeer, for 25 cents. The bathhouse was simply bathing at the beach, but the beer garden was unsuccessful and was closed. Thrill rides began developing in 1892 with the Switchback Railway.
When resorts started becoming a popular destination in the early 1900s, in 1905, Cedar Point opened Hotel Breakers to help them survive. There have been several more resorts since then. Now there is the added addition of Camper Village and Lighthouse Point, for camping, next to Soak City Water Park.
Cedar Point is well known as the Roller Coaster Capital of the World, opening new coasters almost every year. There were 3,247,000 visitors in 2014.
