The Cleveland Art Museum of Art, Established in 1913, is internationally known for their considerable amount of Asian and Egyptian art. The museum itself, opened June 6, 1916. There is more than 45,000 permanent pieces of art housed at the museum from various cultures and an expanse of 6,000 years time. The museum is free for general admission with support by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and the Ohio Arts Council, through the state’s taxes.  The original donations to create the museum came from industrialists Hinman B. Hurlbut, John Huntington, and Horace Kelley, who set up the endowments. Jeptha H. Wade II donated the land. Hubbell & Benes was the Cleveland firm that designed the neoclassic building of white Georgian marble. Since the opening, the museum has grown to be one of the most comprehensive collections in the United States. The Ingalls Library was to be inclusive of the institution’s intellectual life when it opened with 10,000 books. Today there are well over 100,000-volume collections. There are many technology-based projects to help with research.   In addition, library systems that allow patrons access to local, national and international collections and research.  The additional programs of the museum include special exhibitions, lectures, films and musical programs, as well as educational programs for lifelong learning, outreach programs, and distance learning.  There was a total attendance of 597,715 as of July 28, 2014.
