The Hawaiian State Art Museum, located at the No. 1 Capitol District Building, houses 132 artworks showing Hawaii’s ethnic and cultural traditions. It first opened in 1872 and requires no admission charges. The Honolulu Museum of Art, founded in 1922, is a museum that has the largest collection of Asian and Pan-Pacific art in the entire country with more than 50,000 pieces in its collection.

Other art museums in Hawaii include the John Young Museum of Art, which showcases Asian and tribal art and the Isaac Art Center, which has the world’s largest collection of works done by Madge Tennent. The East Hawaii Cultural Center also holds regular arts exhibits as well as workshops and classes. Meanwhile, the Shangri La is also home to a large collection of artifacts and artworks that total to around 2,500.
