Wailua Falls

The Wailua Falls looks very familiar to those who love watching Fantasy Island, which aired from 1977 to 1984, as it was prominently featured in its opening credits.

The Wailua Falls, located in Lihue in Kauai, the river goes down into two streams and drops down around 173 feet below. Getting to the bottom of the falls is a fairly easy walk although it requires walking down a rather muddy and slippery path. There is a trail further down the parking lot that is a lot less steep but it is also possible to simply look at the Wailua Falls from the roadside.

To get to the location of the waterfall, simply head north to Lihue and follow the Maalo Road in Hanamaulu then travel uphill for about three miles. Several Hawaiian men used to jump from the top of the falls to prove their manhood but have now been declared dangerous and illegal. The pool below the falls is great for swimming, however.
