Oregon’s most famous zoo is the Oregon Zoo, formerly called the Washington Park Zoo, a 64-acre facility that opened back in 1888. It currently houses nearly 2000 animals across 232 species, including Asian elephants and 21 endangered species. Oregon also boasts of the 23-acre Oregon Coast Aquarium, which opened in 1992. The facility has been able to draw in nearly half a million visitors in 2012. It was also once home to Keiko, the orca in the movie Free Willy. Other notable zoos and animal reserves to visit in Oregon are Seaside Aquarium, Portland Aquarium, Sloth Center at Zoological Wildlife Conservation Center, Rusk Ranch Nature Center, Oregon Undersea Gardens and Hatfield Marine Science Center of OSU.
