The Saint Louis Zoological Park is a 90-acre zoo located in Forest Park, St. Louis. It is home to around 19,000 animals representing 655 species. Aside from being a zoo with numerous animal attractions, Saint Louis Zoo is also a leader in animal management, research, conservation and education. Most of Saint Louis Zoo can be accessed for free although there are special attractions that charge an admission fee.
Saint Louis Zoo is divided into several park zones. The Lakeside Crossing features the Caribbean Cove, a shallow touch-pool with several stingrays, sharks and crabs. It is the only part of the zoo that requires an admission price although one can enter for free during the first hour that the zoo opens. Other zones in the park include the River’s Edge which features animals from four continents, Discovery Corner, The Wild, Historic Hill and Red Rocks. Another special feature is the Emerson Zooline Railroad whose passenger trains encircle the zoo and stop by popular attractions.
