The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) had 7,049,730 visitors in 2015. This museum is open to the public free of charge and one day shy of a full year, every year. The museum was established March 1910. There are 128,915,711 Collections Objects and Specimens in the museum and 14,183 Archival Cubic Feet in the museum.

The NMNH has the distinction of holding The Hope Diamond as a permanent piece of its collection. At the present time, the Diamond is not on display due to renovation’s being provided to the adjoining National Fossil Hall. The Hope Diamond will be back on display July 1, 2016. The Diamond is part of the National Gem Collection housed in The Harry Winston Gallery. There is an IMAX theatre that runs an average of  three movies at a time, one of them currently being the National Parks Adventure 3D on a 6-story screen. This movie is narrated by Robert Redford. One educational program at NMNH is helping students in grades 6-12. The Q?rius school programs allow students the onsite experience of biology, environmental science, ornithology, geology,  anthropology, forensic science,  and more.
