Golden Gate Park is located in San Francisco and is 1,017 acres of gardens, playgrounds, lakes, picnic groves, trails, and monuments. The original purpose of the park was housing expansion and the growth of the city toward the west. A topographic map and construction of the park began in 1870.

Some of the activities and attractions at the park include the 35-acre San Francisco Marina Small Craft Harbor between Presidio and North Beach; the 337.5-acre Camp Mather, in Yosemite National Park; and natural areas like the 49 square miles of the San Francisco Peninsula. The park is dog-friendly, with several areas that visitors can bring their dogs to play, and keeping within the city’s ordinances.

San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has the distinction of maintaining six golf courses.  TPC Harding Park hosted the 2015 PGA Tour Match Play Championship and is expected to host the PGA Championship in 2020. There is also an Urban Trail Program where there are 30-miles of trails that hikers will eventually be able to access in their entirety, with the improvement program that has been implemented in 2008. . There are 13,000,000 visitors to the park yearly and the fifth most-visited park in the United States.
