SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) through March 2020, and ranked 11 out of the Top 20 AMUSEMENT/THEME PARKS in NORTH AMERICA, in 2014. The park opened March 27, 1964, and has 190-acres. This park has the unique aspect of being an animal theme park, oceanarium, outside aquarium, and marine mammal park rolled into one, as well.

As a theme park, there are attractions to ride such as the Manta, Wild Arctic Ride, Riptide Rescue and Elmo’s Flying Fish. As an oceanarium, SeaWorld’s’ Animal Care exceeds the standards of the two professional zoological organizations they belong to, The Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquariums. The outside aquarium and marine mammal park include the Shamu stadium and viewing area, Dolphin Stadium and the Sea Lion and Otter Stadium.

There are plenty of animal experiences available where visitors can dine with Shamu, a trainer will show you their training techniques with bottle-nosed dolphins and let you feed them, and a trainer will be there to you get into the water in a provided wetsuit for interaction with the gentle, yet powerful beluga whales. These experiences are a separate cost but are well worth the price for animal lovers and those interested in conservation. There were 3,794,000 visitors in 2014, making SeaWorld the 11th of 20 top ranked AMUSEMENT/THEME PARKS in North America.
