New York is the fourth most populous state in the US with an estimated population of almost 8.5 million. The state had been inhabited by French colonists and Jesuit missionaries as well as several tribes of Native Americans. As a center of commerce, New York State’s economy is huge and would have been 15th in the world if it had been a nation. Although its capital, New York City, is a global modern city, New York State is a major agricultural producer with about a quarter of its land in farms. NYC is the most visited place in the state with more than 56 million domestic and foreign tourists every year. Four of the most visited tourist attractions in 2013 – Times Square, Central Park, Niagara Falls and Grand Central Terminal – can be found in the state, three of which are all in the city. Other places to check in the state outside of NYC are the Brooklyn Bridge, Watkins Glen State Park and the Corning Museum of Glass.
