Tourist Attractions in Tampa, FL

The city of Tampa was named by one of its original settlers, the Calusa tribe, and means ‘sticks of fire’. Spanish explorers came into the area during the 1520s and brought in diseases that wiped away the original natives. They were not, however, able to build a colony and there was no permanent settlement established within the city until after the area was acquired by the United States from Spain in 1819. One of the best features in Tampa is its 165 parks and beaches that cover a land area of around 2,286 acres, the most popular of which is the Hillsborough River State Park. The area also boasts of numerous theme parks and attractions including Florida Aquarium, the 335-acre Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Lowry Park Zoo and Adventure Island. The Tampa Bay Historic Center in the Channel District and the Museum of Science and Industry are also must-visit places for tourists.
